Very disappointed
One of my favorite bands, but apparantly they have decided to become someone else. All the players played and sung well. But the new music is unrecognizable as being from Houndmouth. They seemed to produce a "wall of sound" on their new stuff and there was no articulation among the various instruments. A poor sound mix heavy on bottom end contributed to the disappointment. The trademark sound of Houndmouth was not there at all. Even on the old stuff it seemed they were more interested in being rockers instead of being Houndmouth.
The loss of Katie also hurt them both in the absence of her lead vocals and the loss of her harmonizing. The saxes were good and were enjoyable.
The Tetragram Ballroom acoustics were good, but I would like to be able to sit down as well as stand. The stage was high enough so that I was able to see everyone on stage even with no slope up towards the rear of the audience area..
They must have had a red eye flight out after the show because I thought they owed their loyal followers a far longer set, or at least a decent encore.
I will not just go out and buy the new CD as I expected to do, I will check it out on Amazon Music first. But I am afraid they have lost me. I will just have to be happy with the previous stuff.
Won't Get Fooled Again" - Pete Townsend
The band - totally derivative, not a single hook to make me want to listen again and again. Better music on their CDs - the live performance should take it to another level (it didn't).
The theatre - as soon as the music started everyone was on their feet and filled up the aisles. Felt a little unsafe. Isn't there a DC Fire Code that addresses this. No attempt by the ushers to keep the aisles and exits clear.
The crowd - Never saw a bigger bunch of self-absorbed, inconsiderate jerks at a show. TAKE YOUR LOUD CONVERSATIONS OUT TO THE BAR, I'm trying to listen to the music!!
